The Organ of Notre Dame

 More than 10,000 French (as of 1970) were in the Bay Area and used this church on special occasions. The organ was one of the few ever built in San Francisco.

St. Peter & Paul's Cathedral

North Beach at 666 Filbert. Founded June 29, 1884. Spires go 191 feet from ground.

Little Italy began to be formed in 1880's and thus the church came into existence. This church was finished in 1924

 A bomber tried to blow this church up in the 1920's. His partner was captured but the bomber disappeared and was never found.

Cameron House

Named after Donaldina Cameron. She rescued Chinese prostitutes and child slaves.

 Chinese men were not allowed to bring their wives from China & so they turned to prostitutes and child labors. Donaldina rescued them at great cost and opposition.

 The angry Tongs called her Fahn Quai, which means foreign devil or white devil. The girls she rescued called her affectionately, Lo Mo, or old mother.

Grace Cathedral. Nob Hill

 The inside has stained glass of not only the gospel but of modern history like Einstein and the landing on the moon.

First St. John's Methodist. 1600 Clay

This church is now closed. William Taylor was a Methodist street preacher. He preached his first open air sermon @ Portsmouth Square which was surrounded by gambling halls.

William Taylor

Was called the singing crusader & preached more than 600 sermons standing on boxes, whiskey barrels ships decks and even on top of a bar. He also became the port chaplain.

St. Luke's Episcopal Church. 1755 Clay st.

This church was dynamited during the 1906 Earthquake to prevent the further spreading of the fire that was moving in its direction.

Old 1st Presbyterian Church. 1751 Sacramento st

Founded May 20 1849. This church was started on a ship from New York to San Francisco by Rev. Albert Williams. Notice the Greek Cross on the front.

St. Patrick's Church. 756 Mission St.

Founded June 9, 1851. This church was started to serve the Irish community.

  Founded in 1952. Just opposite Portsmouth square in Chinatown.

Seems to be one of the remaining structures near to the financial district.

My heart is San Francisco even though I live in Sweet Home Alabama. Ever since my youth group did a mission trip to YWAM San Francisco, I've known God has always wanted me back. This past summer I had the privilege of going back and being summer staff. While there, God completely changed me.
