Timothy Paul Svoboda - President and YWAM San Francisco Bay Area Coordinator 

Timothy Svoboda is currently the International Urban missions Director for Youth With A Mission and also serves as the City Coordinator for YWAM San Francisco and the Bay Area. Tim, his wife and children have served in India from 1983 to 2007. Tim was the National Director for YWAM India, the South Asia Urban Ministry Coordinator and the Chennai City Coordinator. YWAM Chennai has developed into a decentralized movement of 17 focused teams that are living incarnationally and reaching out to leprosy patients, slum dwellers, university students, urban middle class people, Muslims, and into other sectors of society. Tim also was one of the founders for Chennai Transformation Network which is a movement that unites the Christians of the city for transformational ministry. Tim and his family currently live in San Francisco giving leadership to the ministry of YWAM there and around the world in cities. Tim also serves on the Global Leadership Team for YWAM international, the Global Urban Missions Network which is a broad consortium of City Missional leaders from various organizations around the world and locally Tim serves on several San Francisco faith initiatives. Tim earned his Doctorate in Ministry from the Bakke Graduate University in 2007 and is an adjunct professor for BGU for their courses in San Francisco and India. 

Ruthie Kim - Board Secretary and Director of Because Justice Matters

Ruthie Kim moved to San Francisco in 1999 and has lived and worked in the Tenderloin disctrict with YWAM.Over the last 9 years Ruthie has been involved in a diversity of ministries that has given her a broad understanding of the poor, abused and needy. She has co lead the ministry of YWAM San Francisco and gained hands on experience reaching out to women facing all forms of exploitation. In May 2008 Ruthie pioneered a new work called ‘Because Justice Matters’ which addresses 4 main areas of injustice; Modern Day Slavery, Domestic Violence, Economic Injustice and Immigrant Discrimination. Ruthie also serves as a volunteer advocate for La casa de las Madres, co-facilitates a faith based DV support group and provides DV training to various non profits in San Francisco.

Ruthie is married to Brian and they have one son whose name is Keilan. Ruthie likes action movies, ethnic food and travel to new countries

Luis Larzabal - Chair of the Development Committee.  Retired Technology Executive

Luis came to admire YWAM when he met and married Lorraine, a lovely YWAM alumna. Luis’ 20+ years of ministry activities include co-founding various men’s morning bible studies, hosting and facilitating home cell groups, participating in worship arts drama, mentoring young men in their walk with Christ, and prison visitation. Luis served on the board of Novosibirsk Christian Publishing, a book publishing and distribution ministry, ending a 15 year tenure in 2007. He served on the advisory board of the YMCA of Palo Alto for 6 years, where he chaired several committees, and led capital campaigns. Luis is a 35+ year veteran and entrepreneur in the hi-tech electronics industry in military, industrial and medical markets. His entrepreneurial enthusiasm led to numerous start-ups both abroad and in Silicon Valley. In 2003 Luis co-founded Phylogy, Inc., a DSL telecommunications equipment company whose focus is addressing the digital divide. Luis currently serves Phylogy as a board member.

Brett A. Curtis - Chair of Governance Committee. COO of YWAM San Diego Baja 

Brett and his wife, Karen, joined YWAM in 1983 serving with Mercy Ships until 2004. Brett served as CEO on the M/V Good Samaritan and then as founding CEO of the M/V Caribbean Mercy before moving into a role at the Mercy Ships International Operations Center in Texas as Vice President, International Development Group. Brett and Karen attended their first house build as a family in 2003. That trip was the final step in a change of direction for them as they made the decision to move from their work with Mercy Ships and join YWAM San Diego/Baja for the next season of their lives. In January 2004, Brett became the Chief Operating Officer for YWAM San Diego/Baja. Brett and Karen have four children.

 

David Worthington - Chair of the Board. Chair of the Audit Committee.  Retired Financial Executive

A veteran financial executive with significant experience in all aspects of financial management, from start-ups to mature businesses. Experience includes: Acquisitions (4), Public offerings (2), Private placements (6), Banking relationships, Change of control (2), SEC reporting, and Systems implementations. Recently retired as CFO of Plastic Jungle, Inc. Has also served as full time or part time financial executive of the following companies: Phylogy, Inc.; Hydropoint Data Systems, Inc.; Entercept Security Technologies, Inc.; Burke Industries, Inc.; and Electro-Technology Corporation.  Served as Audit staff for Ernst & Young. EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION: BS - Accounting, San Jose State University – 1975, California CPA - 1977, MBA - Finance, UC Berkeley - 1983

 

 

Karol Svoboda  

Karol Svoboda has been in YWAM since 1974 and is married with three grown children. Karol has an Associate degree in Early Childhood Education. While in India the majority of her years were working with children in a primary school setting that her and two other women started. Karol also worked with children at risk in the Street Shelter and Aids Hospice that YWAM Chennai ran. Karol did ongoing homecare/teacher training with the teachers and caregivers in the shelters. Karol also had a lot of involvement with pastoral care of our staff and continues in that role at YWAM San Francisco as well as reaching out to families from overseas in the neighborhood. 

 

Gordy McDonald - YWAM Montana Leadership Development 

Gordy and his wife, Renee, began their ministry as youth pastors shortly after being married in 1973. In 1979 they joined Youth With A Mission in Kona, Hawaii and have served in the training and equipping of missionaries in both Hawaii and Montana. In 1985 the McDonalds moved to Lakeside to direct the training programs of YWAM Montana and in 1989 they assumed the overall leadership of the ministry until November of 2002. Gordy served as the Northwest Director for Youth With A Mission having responsibilities for the other YWAM works in Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Alaska and Wyoming. In June of 2004 Gordy was invited to join the staff of Evergreen Community Church in Bothell Washington and served there until June of 2007. Later that year the McDonalds rejoined YWAM and are now serving in Montana and at large in the area of leadership development. Gordy has also recently completed a Masters degree in Leadership. The McDonalds have two children, a married son Cory, age 33 and a married daughter Krista, age 29.

 

Bevin Ginder - YWAM Colorado Springs Strategic Frontiers Leadership Team 

Bevin was born to missionary parents and lived in Zimbabwe until age 11. Bevin has felt called to missions since childhood days. During high school and college He participated in several missions trips with Teen Missions Int'l.  He graduated from Messiah College in 1987 with a BA in Religion and a minor in Missions.  He completed his DTS at Last Days Ministries in TX. After joining staff, Bevin served in worship and the DTS program until LDM closed down. He then joined YWAM Strategic Frontiers where he met his wife Judy who was born and raised in Okinawa. Together, Bevin and Judy helped birth the Azerbaijani Alliance and later gave leadership to approx 16 people groups advocacy teams.  Presently they both serve on the leadership team at YWAM Strategic Frontiers and give leadership to communications, worship and intercession. He teaches in DTS's and SOSM's around the world on topics related to Missions and Mobilization. For 5 years, Bevin and Judy also served as the North American Directors of Frontier Missions and gave oversight to an annual Frontier Missions conference known as the GO! Conference.

I helped out at summer of service and really enjoyed my time. I was able to meet new people from around the world and become close friends. God taught me a lot about living in community and how to be an effective leader.
